I have had 4 studios since moving to Atlanta in 1982. The first 3 were in warehouses near downtown Atlanta. Rents were cheap, leaky roofs, freezing winters and blazing summers were tolerated. In the late 90's, developers began snatching up these industrial buildings. A "loft boom" had begun and the writing was on the wall (usually in the form of an eviction notice).
The studio you see here, was built in my backyard with the help of a carpenter-friend. Stats: construction took 5 months, completed Nov.1998, 800 square feet, height center beam 15ft., budget $22,000.
